In
order to strengthen the field of Geographical Information Systems
(GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) and to introduce this system in policy
making and planning, National University of Sciences and Technology
(NUST) established “Institute of Geographical Information
Systems”.The purpose of this Institute is to serve as an
integrated platform for the support of fundamental GIS capabilities
and capacity building in the field of Geographical Information
Systems. After the successful completion of three short courses
in GIS/RS and tremendous response from the public and private sectors
working for national progress, IGIS proudly announced in 2005 the
commencement of first Master’s Degree Program in GIS, Remote
Sensing and GPS application areas. The MS Program will not only
improve the spatial data awareness but will also help to achieve
enduring information, environment for research and learning. This
program will develop a better understanding of data resources within
the country and spatial data utilization for resource management.
