Civilian Students

General Requirements

IGIS is looking for people from vast variety of different backgrounds who want to excel in their careers by learning GIS and Remote Sensing techniques and coupling it with their core disciplines. In general students from the following educational/professional backgrounds are normally considered to be potential candidates for our Master program in GIS and Remote Sensing

  1. Remote Sensing and GIS / Geography / Geology /Computer Science or Engg / Environmental Science or Engg / Civil Engg / Forestry / Agriculture / Town Planning / City & Regional Planning / Urban Planning

  2. Physics / Marine Biology / Oceanography / Public Health / Electrical Engg / Mechanical Engg or any other relevant Engineering, and Natural science disciplines

  3. Archeology / Economics / Rural Development / Architecture / Business Management / Public Administration and Management or any other Social and Management Science disciplines


Specific Requirements

Minimum 16 years of Education from HEC/PEC recognized Universities / Institutes is required to get admition in masters program with a m inimum CGPA 2.5 out of 4.0 or first division (60% marks) unless otherwise mentioned. The percentage will only be valid, if CGPA is not mentioned in the previous (Terminal) degree or academic transcript on the basis of which an applicant is eligible to apply. No third division and only one second division through out the academic carrier is allowed.

Minimum 50% marks in NTS (GAT) Test or good score in GRE (General) GMAT / MCAT (as applicable). Score of GAT held before 30th Sept, 2006 will not be accepted.

Note: It will be candidate's own responsibility to get the equivalence established through Higher Education Commission (HEC) / Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) / Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC)/Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), etc if required.

Each student will make an application for admission in response to advertisements appearing in the press by the University, on the prescribed application form. Pre-requisites for eligibility of candidates for admission shall be announced through the prospectus. In addition to the eligibility of candidate, the Registration Branch will also ensure following during evaluation of applications in line with the university policy in vogue:-

a.
Candidates with good academic record from a local/foreign University/ Institution, of repute, will only be considered for admission at NUST. The minimum laid down standards as per policy including CGPA/%ages in Bachelors/Masters will be strictly adhered to.
 
b.
Relevancy, strength and GPA of the courses taken by the candidate during Bachelors/Masters at previous University/Institution to the program applied will be given due weightage.
c.
The score obtained in GRE/GMAT or local GRE/ GMAT conducted by NUST/HEC etc should be in the higher bracket.

All admissions for civilian students shall be recommended by the Admission Committee which shall comprise as under:-

a.
Pro Rector - Chairman
b.
Commandant/Dean of the concerned College/Institute/Centre along with relevant faculty.
c.
Registrar NUST.
d. Director Examination and Academics NUST.
e. Director Research & Development NUST.
f. Director Management Information System (MIS).


Rector NUST will be the final authority for admission for civilians inducted under NUST schemes.

Services Students
The students will be selected by the respective Services as here-to-fore as per admission criteria of NUST.
